Set/Setting is an ongoing project that I started in 2022.

The project began with my documentation of photography sets that my parents (who are portrait photographers) have built over the past 30 years in the verdant landscape where the live near Minneapolis, MN.

The documentary images are used as material for ink-jet based paintings that complicate the relationship between the designated function of the set and its relationship to the setting.
The set and setting line becomes infrathin through landscaping, the weathering of materials and the documentation of sets without subjects.

Selections digital paintings from the Set/Setting project were exhibited in Sleepy Drivers, a two-person exhibition with the artist Meghan Cox at Cerulean in Philadelphia in February 2023.
